Busy is one word to describe
the Bangkok Thai Restaurant, located just off
the Rembrandtplein. As we took our place in
the lobby to wait for a table, I was enticed
by the wonderful smells wafting from the open
style kitchen. After about 5 minutes, our hostess
dressed in a beautiful traditional Thai skirt,
led us to an intimate table by the wall. The
floor was laid with salmon coloured tiles, accented
with pink walls and a dramatic pigeon blood
red ceiling, completed the exotic décor.
As I sipped my jasmine tea, I had a hard time
deciding what to order, but decided on the “
Lumpia”, chicken spring rolls as an appetizer,
while Drew opted for the chicken and coconut
milk soup. My spring rolls arrived, hot and
crispy, delicately seasoned with a sweet and
spicy sauce for dipping. Drew’s soup was
full of tender chunks of chicken and the combination
of the tangy lemon grass and coconut milk, was
absolutely delicious.
For our main course we chose
to share the Pork Pad Thai and a Shrimp and
Pineapple dish. Both of us loaded our plates,
and our server also brought us a huge dish of
sticky rice . The Pad Thai was very tasty, slightly
sweet and the pork was extremely tender. My
favourite was the huge shrimp which were perfectly
cooked, tail on and tangled with enormous chunks
of fresh pineapple. Needless to say, we didn’t
have any room for desert, after this feast!
Bangkok has a wonderful menu, coupled with attentive
service, so I would highly recommend it if you
are looking for quality Thai dining.
Our total bill came to 47.85 EU…and worth
every penny!
