Joseltio Tapas
Café imparts the spirit of true Spanish
hospitality. It’s a great spot to dine
and enjoy a drink on the patio. As I entered
the café, my eyes were immediately drawn
to the large “ Serrano” hams, intertwined
with strings of dried peppers, hanging over
the bar. A good indication that the food would
be authentic. The décor was very inviting,
all the tables being a dark wood, with splashes
of reds and terracotta on the walls. Each table
was adorned with an antique silver candelabra,
lit even though it was mid-afternoon. We ordered
drinks from the friendly server and studied
the rather large menu. I was curious about the
hams, so wandered over to the bartender and
proceeded to pepper him with questions, which
he cheerfully answered. As we waited for our
first round of Tapas, the bartender suddenly
appeared with a basket of fresh, chewy bread
and a “present”…a generous
plate of the Serrano ham, because I had been
so interested in it. Within a few minutes our
food began to appear, Drew had chosen the Roquefort
salad, presented in endive boats, garnished
with whole Brazil nuts, almonds and a mild creamy
dressing, and I started with the grilled asparagus
served with a small green salad. The asparagus
literally melted in my mouth and was very sweet.
The honeydew melon, wrapped in proscuitto was
alternately sweet and salty and a large enough
portion to share. The beef empanada was a flaky
turnover stuffed with meat and potato, perfect
match for a cold beer. As I contentedly sipped
my hot chocolate and baileys, we agreed that
this was the best service we had received in
two weeks of eating out.
If your looking for great food
with friendly, unhurried service, visit Joselito,
I will certainly go back again.
On our second visit, the service
and food were a little dissappointing, but like
a lot of Amsterdam Restaurants, service can
be hit and miss. We still reccommend Joselito
as a great stop for a casual meal.
