Right along Rembrandtplein there is a stretch
of pubs with outdoor patio seating. A great
place to grab lunch on a sunny day, and relax
with a cold drink …or two. But beware,
because a lot of these are just plain tourist
traps, with over priced crappy food. La Madonnina
fits in this category.
After doing some shopping, we decided to stop
for a quick bite and thought that some pasta
sounded good. After a wait of 20 minutes, a
waiter finally appeared to take our drink order,
for a beer and a rum and coke. I had to repeat
myself 3 times, as the waiter barely understood
or spoke English. Drew ordered the ravioli;
I ordered an insalata caprese (tomato and mozzarella)
and a side of garlic bread. When our food arrived,
I was sadly disappointed to see a very small
amount of limp tomatoes, garnished with some
thin slices of mozzarella cheese, and drizzled
with oil, on my salad plate. The garlic bread
was actually a thin pizza crust, sprinkled with
garlic powder…no flavor at all! The worst
was the plate of obviously canned ravioli in
a very bland sauce. Yech! It was not worth eating,
so we quickly paid our bill of 24.50 EU…and
left…still hungry!
I would not recommend this place to my worst
enemy.
