At first glance,
Pe-Pe would appear to be your typical neighbourhood
pizzeria, a scattering of four tops set with
brightly coloured paper placemats. The menu
is standard Italian dishes, although several
of the pizzas feature fish, including smoke
herring. As we waited for our Heinikens, the
only beer served, the waitress brought us a
basket of hot bread accompanied by a ramekin
of garlic and chive butter, and a small dish
of green olives. As we happily munched away,
I selected my entrée of the veal saltimbocca
and my companion ordered the calzone, stuffed
with ham, mushrooms, sausages and green peppers.
Our waitress must have misunderstood
our order and came back with the veal and a
four cheese pizza. The veal was a two piece
order, swimming in sauce served with a green
side salad and small plate of spaghetti. It
smelled great so I cut into it right away. Unfortunately
it was salty, and the meat was undercooked making
it a little tough to cut into. The pizza was
large enough for two but served uncut, making
it difficult to share. Although the crust was
thin and crispy, the four cheese combination
was excessively greasy.
The bill came to a total of 28.25 euros which
I found to be overpriced for the quality of
the food. Overall, I would not recommend this
restaurant.
