The Two Greeks
, like many of Amsterdam’s restaurants,
this tiny gem is tucked in between several other
cafes along Prinsenstraat and we almost walked
by without noticing it. Fortunately there was
a group of people studying the menu from the
sidewalk, so we followed their lead and snagged
one of the last remaining tables inside. The
ambience was very inviting and each table was
adorned with a tall white candle. As we studied
the menu, the bartender gave me suggestions
on which red wine to order. Drew choose the
Montenerro, which was a little acidic on it’s
own but matched the food quite well. For appetizers
we tried the dolmades, spanikopita, and tzatiki.
The grape leaves were wonderful, plump little
pillows stuffed with rice and ground beef, and
a gravy poured over for dipping. The spanikopita
were flaky and fragrant, and the taztiki was
thick and creamy, obviously freshly made. For
an entrée we decided to share the mixed
grill plate, of lamb chops, pork souvlaki, and
spicy meatballs. The plate was piled high and
included sides of rice, coleslaw and a cold
fava bean salad. All the meats were tender and
full of flavour. I would highly recommend a
visit to the Two Greeks.
Our total bill was 32.00 Euros.
