De Waaghals meaning “ The Daredevil” happens to be one of the only true vegetarian
restaurants in all of Amsterdam. The cooks are
able to perform great tricks with healthy (bio)
ingredients making each dish as good as vegetarian
cuisine gets. The menu changes twice throughout
the month , usually focusing on a different
ethnic cuisine. In the summer, sit and enjoy
one of the local brews in the charming garden
in the back. To avoid disappointment, call first
for a reservation.

Betty's smooth and modern decor isn't typical
of a vegetarian restaurant. Crisp white walls,
smooth wooden tables, accented by tasteful art
on the wall and classical music softly playing
in the background. The enthusiastic owner, who
also happens to be a wine afficionado, warmly
welcomes you in. The menu is written in a delightful
story style, with several countries/regions
to chose from. The Mediterranean menu consists
of tapenade's , lentil salad, mushroom pasta
and patatas bravas. There's also wonderful dishes
of humus, and baba ganoush. All the meals are
beautifully presented on white porcelain plates.
Save room for the awesome cheesecake.

This Latin style café with, world music,
a changing program of ethnic art exhibits, evening
candlelight, and a superb view of the canal,
make this former hat store -- bolhoed is Dutch
for bowler hat – rather distinguishable
from the other vegetarian restaurants in Amsterdam.
Explore veggie delights such as pumpkin soup,
or a lucious ragoùt croissant (pastry
filled with leeks, tofu, seaweed, and curry
sauce. In warm weather, dine at one of the tiny
tables on the canalside terrace .

Over the last few years, the concept
of speedy soup purveyors has finally
hit Amsterdam. "Soup etc."
leads the pack by being particularly
fast (between 10 and 7:30 daily), as
well as being health conscious. Four
fresh soups are available each day,
served with chunky slices of nutty whole-grain
breads. The menu also offers a selection
of salads and exotic fruit juices imported
from Brazil( which starts as frozen
fruit pulp.)

Entering its fourth decade this temple of
taste is still one of the best vegetarian
(and vegan) options in town. With a nonsmoking
policy that adds a heavenly touch all on
its own. The menu is comes alive with its
unlikely mixture of Indian, Middle Eastern,
and Mexican dishes. The food is delicately
spiced and full of flavor.
Multiple-choice platters are a great way
to go. For the Indian thali, you can select
from dishes like sag paneer (homemade cheese),
vegetable korma, and raita (cucumber and
yogurt dip. Side dishes range from spicy
guacamole, to couscous, and pakora. Your
kids will love the yummy homemade ice cream
.
